Here’s her story

Pinki is a very creative woman with various artistic skills, but expressing herself on a canvas is her favourite hobby.

She spent her childhood in Assam which lies in the picturesque North Eastern part of India. She moved to Australia about 9 years ago and lives with her family in Brisbane. Being a stay at home mum to a lovely teenage daughter, Pinki started pursuing her hobby of painting. She soon realised that her creative interests enabled her to explore so much more outside of her daily routine, there was no coming back after that.

“Once I began painting often, I realised how much I loved playing with colours. It released all the stress in my mind and I felt more proactive in my daily life.”

Her choice of theme & medium of her artwork

Having spent her childhood amidst nature, she has inclination towards painting natural landscapes. “The memories of the mighty Brahmaputra river have always been a key influence for me. Most of my paintings have got an element of water in them. However, I aim to paint a portrait one day!”

On being asked about her medium of choice she has her favourites! “Oil paintings have always been my favourite because of their slow drying nature. They are fantastic for creating subtle blends and give enough time for corrections and retouches. I prefer using bright bold colours as they can lighten up any corner of the room and also one’s mood.”

On overcoming the fear of blank canvas!

It’s quite common for new hobbyists to get overwhelmed on where to start. Fear of a blank canvas is real and quite common among artists. Pinki has it quite sorted for her. “Before starting with a new painting, I think ahead and plan what I intend to paint – a landscape, a city-scape or something else. I go through a lot of pictures and images for ideas. Once I am done, I make a rough sketch of what I want on the canvas and I am good to go.”

She re-quotes Georgia O’Keeffe, an American artist, ‘Filling a space in a beautiful way. That’s what art means to me.’

Her message to anyone who wants to adopt an artistic hobby as an adult

“Practising an artistic hobby needs no age, one can start whenever one feels like.  The amazing feeling of creating something, the feeling of contentment and achievement makes it all worthwhile.”

Pinki cherishes the freedom of expression that she enjoys while painting, “there are absolutely no rules to follow!” she chuckles.

She further adds, “practising art is a healthy distraction from day to day work pressure and negative emotions.”

Pinki’s views about our message – ‘Pursuing art for a healthier living.’

“It is a proven fact that any form of art helps to calm our mind and is a healthy way to relieve stress. Since art has got no rules or no timelines to be followed, it is absolutely rewarding.”

She mentions, “art has definitely brought a positive change in me. I am a lot less stressed now and feel much more confident as I get to meet new people and exchange ideas and thoughts.”
