Introduction

About Infinite Mandala

This mandala is inspired by Autumn colours. The red, orange and yellow shades reflect the colour of fall leaves while blue colour depicts clear skies.

The dot arrangement is such that the mandala draws your attention towards its centre and engages your mind. It can be placed in the prayer or meditation room.

The mandala is bright, colourful, happy and alive. Painting it calms the mind & brings our complete attention to the present.

The colours used in this mandala are warm yellow, yellow orange, turquoise blue, deep red and titanium white. I try to make my artworks really colourful and happy using striking colour combinations. However, it is up to you which colours you want your mandala to reflect. Painting a mandala is more about the creation experience rather than an end result.

Story Of The Infinite Mandala

Follow the sequence from left to right to view how this mandala was painted. You do not need to paint it exactly as I did. Use the images for reference only or you may spoil your experience of painting your own mandala. Do not give too much attention to the final design aspect or you may feel overwhelmed.

Tips to make Mandala Painting a Meditative Experience

Don’t just paint a mandala, experience it!

Tip 1

Find yourself a quiet and free time of the day where you can sit uninterrupted for at least 30-60 minutes. Make sure the sitting is comfortable to avoid getting tired. Sitting on a table & chair is recommended.

Tip 2

This is an optional step but makes the whole experience very calming. Play your favourite relaxing music. Make sure you select a long playlist and don’t get distracted by changing songs while painting. Lighting some scented candles helps.

Tip 3

It is a good practice to think of some positive thoughts before starting painting. That way, the mandala always reminds us of some happy memories and happy vibes. I generally think of a trip or a happy event in life.

Tip 4

When you are ready to start, decide the colours you want to use beforehand. It is a good practice to keep only 4-5 colours at hand for this size of canvas. You can choose to use the colours that I have used or have your own choice of colours.

Tip 5

Paint the canvas in black or work on a black canvas. Locate the centre of the canvas and draw few circles for guidance. This is just to help you maintain the symmetry, you don’t need to plan the exact design before starting.

Tip 6

Start painting the mandala, gradually putting one dot at a time. Beginning from the centre, and growing outwards. Focus on dotting, and bring your complete focus to the present moment. Don’t stress about the final design.

Tip 7

Always complete dotting each circle within, before starting with the outer circle to avoid any confusion. Keep a cloth handy to clean the brush or the tool. Use wet wipes to wipe out any errors.

Tip 8

Continue painting and enjoying the experience. When you feel content with the experience, you can stop and keep the canvas at a safe place for drying. Make sure to find another time for the project soon.
